How do I manage add-ons offered during the campaign in BackerKit pledge manager?

NOTE: Add-ons offered during your campaign (BackerKit or Kickstarter) do not import into BackerKit pledge manager until your campaign has successfully concluded. This process may take up to 24 hours. Once campaign add-ons are imported, you will see the list populated on the Campaign Add-on Configuration Page.

All add-ons sold during your crowdfunding campaign must match their respective add-on in BackerKit. This process automatically places add-ons purchased during the campaign into backer's carts, and also allows backers to make selections on items with variants, think t-shirt size, color, design, etc.

We recommend using the Item Generator to set up all of items being offered to your backers through the survey (which automatically creates SKUs to be used across your project).

IMPORTANT: Add-ons offered during the campaign must match the price of the add-on mapped in the pledge manager. This will prevent backers from having extra credit or a balance due on their survey for already purchased items

How to link and import add-ons into backer's surveys

  1. Set up all of your add-ons in pledge manager
    1. If an add-on corresponds to an item included in one of your pledge levels, set up the item first using the Item Generator.
    2. If an add-on is not part of any pledge level you offered, you can create a new add-on.
  2. From the Customize Add-Ons page, click Link and import add-ons into backers' surveys. There should be a notice on the top of the page:

  3. You will see a list of the add-ons you offered during your campaign on this page. In the drop down next to each campaign add-on, select the corresponding pledge manager add-on you created in BackerKit.
  4. Once all add-ons have been mapped to their corresponding BackerKit add-on, make sure to click Save to confirm your mapping. Then click Import add-ons into backer's survey to inject add-ons into backers' carts.

NOTE: If you offered add-ons as an upgrade to the backer's pledge level or offered add-ons that were bundles of items, please reach out to our success team for assistance on this setup.

Preview how add-ons will appear in the survey

Use the Preview Survey Tool to test how add-ons will appear in the survey.

  1. Select a Pledge Level to preview, the backer's payment state (paid exact amount, did not pay for shipping, over/under pledged)
  2. Check the Preview with Kickstarter Add-ons box, which will add all of the add-ons you offered during the campaign to the Test Backer’s survey. This is for preview purposes only. Backers will only see the add-ons they selected during the campaign.
  3. Click Preview Survey
  4. After answering pledge questions, backers will be taken to a special page to confirm the add-ons they selected during the campaign. If the add-ons have options such as size, color or design, they will make those selections here.
  5. After confirming the options, these add-ons will be added and locked into the backer's cart.

NOTE: You may see credit on a backer's order page before they confirm the add-ons they selected during the campaign. That is expected as credit does not get used until the backers make their add-on selections. This credit will be automatically applied to the KS Add-ons upon completion. No further action is needed.

Not seeing add-ons in backers carts or order page?

When add-ons offered during the campaign are imported into your backer's survey, they will appear under the Placeholders Add-ons section on the backer's order page.

Until the backer's survey is confirmed, placeholder add-ons will indicate "No selection made yet"

Backers who has selected add-ons during the campaign will see these items in their survey and be prompted to either "confirm" them as-is, or make a selection like size, color, or design (if applicable). Once the backer has completed their survey, these items will be added to their order. You will see them under the Add-ons section on the backer's order page.

Backers are not able to remove locked add-ons. As an admin, you have the ability to remove them
