How do I manually add backers to BackerKit?

While manually adding new backers into your project is possible, you want to make sure that it’s the right fit before doing so. If you are wanting to accept late pledges, BackerKit’s pre-order store will help you accept late pledges. In addition to the standard flow of the Pre-order Store checkout, which mimics an e-commerce checkout process, we are now offering a new beta feature for the Pre-order Store which allows you to collect late pledges directly into a ‘pledge level’. Learn more about our new Pre-order beta feature, click here.

If the automatic flow of adding backers into your project (directly from Kickstarter/Indiegogo campaign and late pledges via BackerKit’s pre-order store) doesn’t fully meet your campaign needs, you can manually add in new backers to your project.

To add a backer manually, when you are logged into your project, click on the Backers page in the left column. Click the Manually Add Backer button, located in the upper right hand corner.  Please note, manually added backers are subject to the same transaction fee as your current pricing plan.

  • Do not add backers who pledged to the original campaign on Kickstarter or Indiegogo, these backers are imported into BackerKit automatically.
  • Do not add pre-order backers who late-pledged to the campaign using BackerKit’s Pre-order store, these pre-order backers are automatically added to your project.

To add a new backer manually, fill out the following information:

  • Name - Name on the pledge.
  • Email - Email on the pledge. BackerKit will send out survey reminders and other backer communication to this email address.
  • Pledge amount - The total amount that backer already paid outside of BackerKit.
    • Note: If the backer did not pay for the Pledge Level outside of BackerKit, insert $0 in this field and they will be asked to pay the full cost of the Pledge Level plus any add-ons, shipping fees and taxes (if applicable) in BackerKit.
  • Reward - Pledge Level the backer would like to be in. The pledge level indicates which rewards that backer is set to receive.

Note: If the backer doesn't get any reward, add them to $1 No Reward pledge level and apply $1 complimentary credit to zero out the pledge amount. If the backer is added to the $1 No Reward pledge level, then they will be able to pick out rewards  in the Add-ons store and will pay for them in BackerKit.

After you click 'Save', a green box will appear in the upper right hand corner. Click on their profile link which will take you to the backer's pledge details page. From there, you can click the Invite link to send the survey invite email to the newly added backer.

Note: If you have multiple backers that you are adding in manually, you can send the survey invitation in bulk using Send & Remind state in the Take Action Timeline on your main dashboard after all backers have been manually added in.
