BackerKit AI Policy

BackerKit Crowdfunding projects must be built on human-created work. This policy protects creators' ownership of their work and keeps BackerKit a platform where creative labor is credited and compensated.

Content created solely with generative AI is not permitted

All content uploaded to promote a BackerKit Crowdfunding project, and all content that is part of the final product, must be created by a person. AI tools may be used to adjust or refine human-created work, provided the result is still clearly the original human-created work.

Permitted uses include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Generative fill or object replacement to blend or repair parts of an image.
  • Basic image adjustments such as color, saturation, and resolution.
  • Spelling, grammar, and syntax correction.
  • Transcription and captioning for accessibility.

How content is reviewed

Our team routinely reviews content when it is uploaded, both before and after launch. This includes the project page, images, videos, updates, rewards, add-ons, and pledge manager content. Review may include automated detection tools and is always completed by a member of our team before action is taken.

  • Before launch, flagged content must be removed or replaced before the project can launch.
  • After launch, uploading content that is flagged as potentially violating this policy may result in removal of the content or suspension of the project while the review is completed.
  • Projects that do not resolve a violation may be removed.

Know your assets

Creators are expected to know the source of every asset uploaded to their project. This includes work they created, commissioned art, stock images and other licensed assets, and content provided by project team members or collaborators. Stock libraries and commissioned artists can supply AI-generated work, so confirm the source of each asset before you upload it. Responsibility for an asset stays with the creator regardless of who supplied it.

Proof of work

Our team may ask creators to show that uploaded content meets this policy. We expect creators to have this documentation ready, in the same way they prepare the other parts of their project, so reviews are quick and cause as little disruption as possible. Examples of documentation we may request include the following.

  • Sketches, drafts, and work-in-progress files.
  • Layered or source files, such as PSD, Procreate, or project files.
  • Commission agreements, invoices, or correspondence with artists.
  • Stock or asset licenses showing the source and terms.
  • Process recordings or timelapse files.

Requests are sent from trustandsafety@backerkit.com. A review pauses until we receive the requested documentation. If documentation is not provided within 1-2 business days, or does not show human creation, the content must be removed or replaced, and the project may be suspended or removed.

Other BackerKit services

This policy applies to projects using BackerKit Crowdfunding. For BackerKit Pledge Manager and Launch pages connected to projects on other platforms, Trust & Safety reviews content on BackerKit services but does not review content hosted on other platforms.

AI training exclusion

Content uploaded by creators for their projects is excluded from AI training datasets. BackerKit hides creator-uploaded content from AI data scrapers that honor exclusion signals.
