Taxpayer ID in Backer Surveys
Some backers may notice an additional field asking for a taxpayer identification number while completing their BackerKit survey. This guide explains what that field is, why it appears, and how to fill it out if needed.
This field only shows for certain countries and only when required for shipping physical rewards. It is optional unless your project creator or their warehouse specifically asks for it.
What Is a Taxpayer ID?
A taxpayer identification number is a government-issued personal or business ID used in some countries to process imported goods through customs.
BackerKit may display one of the following depending on your country:
- Mexico: RFC Number
- Brazil: CPF or CNPJ Number
- China: Resident ID
- South Korea: PCCC
- Taiwan: NTIN
These ID numbers help ensure that your package is delivered smoothly and does not get held, delayed, or returned by customs.
Why Am I Being Asked for This?
Some countries require a valid taxpayer ID before physical goods can enter the country. Creators may need this information so that your rewards pass through customs without issues.
BackerKit automatically detects your country based on your shipping address and only shows this field when it applies.
Note: If your country does not require a taxpayer ID, you will not see this section at all.
Is This Required?
In BackerKit, this field is optional. Whether you must provide it depends on:
- Your country’s customs rules
- Whether your creator or fulfillment warehouse requires it for delivery
If your creator needs this number to ship your rewards, they will let you know through their updates and survey.
Where Do I Enter This in My Survey?
You will see the taxpayer ID field when you reach the Shipping step of your BackerKit survey.
It appears directly under your full name of recipient line when filling out your address. If the field does not appear, that means it is not relevant for your country.
Example:
How to Fill Out Your Taxpayer ID
- Enter the number exactly as issued by your local authority.
- Double-check formatting (some regions require letters, some numbers).
- If you are unsure of your ID, check:
- Your government tax portal
- Your national ID card
- Your business registration documents (for CNPJ in Brazil)
Does BackerKit Share This Information?
Your taxpayer ID is only shared securely with your project creator and their fulfillment partner if needed to process your shipment.
