How do I review my survey questions before sending them to backers?

Before you send the survey to your backers, you may want to review what your backers will see.

When you preview your survey questions, you’ll see the survey as a test backer. You’ll be able to make selections as a backer, but the items you select won’t be counted toward your item totals.

How do I review my add-on item questions?

To review your add-on item questions:

On the menu on the left, click Add-ons.
Click the Preview tab.

How do I review my pledge questions?

To review your pledge questions:

On the menu on the left, click Pledge Questions.
At the bottom of your list of items, click the Preview how these questions will look link.
Select a pledge level.

How do I review my entire survey?

To review and test your survey questions:

On the menu on the left, click Preview Surveys.
Click the Survey Preview Tool tab.
Select the pledge level you want to preview. If you’re shipping items to backers in multiple countries, select a country as well.
Click Preview Survey.

You can use this tool to:

Test out the overall survey flow for clarity including how Kickstarter add-ons are confirmed (check the box Preview with Kickstarter Add-ons, see image below),
Confirm if pledge level items and add-on items have been set up correctly and
Confirm if shipping fees and VAT & taxes have been set up correctly.

There are 4 filters that can be used when previewing a survey.

Filter: Paid the exact amount during the campaign

This filter will allow you to preview the survey as if backers do not owe any balance at the start of the survey. If you collected shipping during the campaign, backers will come into the survey with $0 balance because they have paid for both pledge level and shipping. Also, this means that backers will pay for any balance due to shipping fees (if collecting in BackerKit), add-ons, taxes, and pledge upgrades in BackerKit.

Filter: Did not pay for shipping

This filter will allow you to preview the survey as if backers did not pay for shipping fees during the campaign. This is the filter that you want to use if you did not charge for shipping during the campaign. This means that backers will pay for any balance due to shipping due to shipping fees, add-ons, taxes, and pledge upgrades in BackerKit.

Filter: Under-pledged during the campaign

This filter will allow you to preview the survey as if backers under-pledged during the campaign. This is a less common scenario as in order for backers to keep their original pledge, they must pay exact or over the pledge amount; however, situations where backer’s payment failed will fall in this category. This means that backers will pay for the full pledge amount plus balance due to shipping fees, add-ons, taxes, and pledge upgrades in BackerKit in order for them to reinstate their original pledge.

Filter: Over-pledged during the campaign

This filter will allow you to preview the survey as if backers over-pledged during the campaign. This is a common practice by backers who over-pledge with an intention to use the extra ‘credit’ to pay for shipping, add-on purchase, upgrades, or taxes in BackerKit.

Please note, you can adjust the test backer’s pledged amount during the campaign when previewing with different filters. Depending on what the total amount that the test backer profile is starting with, the breakdown of charges collected vs due in BackerKit will change.
