BackerKit Postage: Syntax Error Troubleshooting

If you're a BackerKit creator and encounter a syntax error while trying to pay for postage, this guide will help you diagnose and resolve the issue. Follow these steps to troubleshoot syntax errors:


  • HTS Code Check:
    • Confirm that the HTS codes on your SKUs do not have dashes and are at least 6 digits long. If they're too short or contain dashes, this can prevent postage purchases.
    • Every SKU including digital SKUs must have a description & HTS code, without either of these syntax errors will generate
  • Phone Number Format:
    • Verify that the phone number on the "Initial Setup" page of BackerKit Postage is correctly formatted.
  • Package Groups and Rates:
    • Refresh the package groups and rates on your packages on BackerKit Postage.
  • Backers' Zip Codes:
    • Check the zip code of the backers mentioned in the error. You can do this by searching for the number listed after "backer:' " in the error message in your project, and checking their shipping information. Make sure they have a valid zip code. For countries that don't require zip codes, enter "00000."
  • Return Address Validation:
