Setting up Google Analytics to track your Crowdfunding project


Create your Analytics account


Your first step is to set up an Analytics account. If you already have an Analytics account skip to creating a property.

  1. Go to https://analytics.google.com.
  2. click start measuring
  3. Provide an account name (e.g. XYZ Games Inc.). Configure the data-sharing settings to control which data you share with Google.
  4. Click Next to add the first property to the account.

Create a new Google Analytics 4 property


We strongly recommend creating a new property specific to your current crowdfunding project. This will allow for more precise measurement and tracking.


To create a property:

  1. Are you continuing from "Create an Analytics account", above? If so, skip to step 2. Otherwise, in Admin, click Create, then select Property.
  2. Enter a name for the property (Name of your Crowdfunding Campaign) and select the reporting time zone and currency.
  3. Click Next. Select your industry category and business size.
  4. Click Next. Select how you intend to use Google Analytics (Drive online sales)
  5. Click Create and (if you are setting up a new account) accept the Analytics Terms of Service and the Data Processing Amendment. Otherwise continue to step 2 below.

Add a data stream


  1. Are you continuing from "Create a property", above? If so, skip to step 2. Otherwise,
    1. In Admin, under Data collection and modification, click Data Streams.
    2. Click Add stream.
  2. Click Web.
  3. Enter the main BackerKit or Kickstarter project URL and a Stream name (Crowdfunding Project Name)
  4. You have the option to enable or disable enhanced measurement. We recommend that you enable enhanced measurement.
  5. Click Create & Continue.
  6. Copy your measurement ID which starts with "G-" (Example G-12345678910)

Installing your tracking ID into your BackerKit project


Are you continuing from "Create a property", above? If so, skip to step 6.

Otherwise to locate your tracking ID follow the below steps:

  1. Log in to your Google Analytics account and click “Admin”
  2. At the top of the ‘Property’ column, select your property
  3. In the ‘Property’ column, click “Data streams”
  4. Select the data stream for which you need the ID (name of Kickstarter project)
  5. Under ‘MEASUREMENT ID’, copy the ID that starts with "G-" (Example G-12345678910)
  6. Navigate to your Backerkit crowdfunding project dashboard
  7. Under "Basics", scroll down to "Google Analytics ID" box
  8. Paste your paste your tracking ID into the field and click “Save” at the bottom

Installing your tracking ID into your Kickstarter project


Are you continuing from "Create a property", above? If so, skip to step 6.

Otherwise to locate your tracking ID follow the below steps:

  1. Log in to your Google Analytics account and click “Admin”
  2. At the top of the ‘Property’ column, select your property
  3. In the ‘Property’ column, click “Data streams”
  4. Select the data stream for which you need the ID (name of Kickstarter project)
  5. Under ‘MEASUREMENT ID’, copy the ID that starts with "G-" (Example G-12345678910)
  6. Navigate to Kickstarter and to the Promotion tab of your project editor, paste your tracking ID into the field and click “Save”


Allow up to 24 hours from when you link your tracking ID for the data to populate in your Google Analytics account.


Invite BackerKit to Analytics Account with "Editor" permissions.


  1. Click the Admin icon
  2. Under Account settings, click Account access management.
  3. In the permissions list, click +, then click Add users.
  4. Enter hello@backerkit.com as the email
  5. Select the "Editor" as the role.
  6. Click Add.
