Pre-launch Reservations on BackerKit Crowdfunding

BackerKit's Pre-launch Reservation feature enables creators to build excitement and grow your audience before you even go live, by allowing supporters to reserve exclusive rewards through their Pre-launch Page.

How it works

The process follows three stages:

1. Creators offer a reservation reward on the Pre-launch Page (for example, a $1 reservation to secure a free bonus item)
2. Supporters follow your project, then pay a modest amount to reserve their special perks
3. At launch, reserving supporters return to pledge, with their rewards automatically added to their checkout cart

Setup Requirements

To implement this feature, creators must:

• Verify your identity, then connect Stripe — both under Build Your Campaign in your project sidebar (Identity Verification, then Payment Setup). Stripe can't be connected until identity verification is complete.
• Contact BackerKit's team to have reservations enabled for your project. Reservations are enabled by BackerKit, so until that's done, the Pre-launch Reservation option in the Incentive Type dropdown will appear greyed out.
• Create the item on the Items page
• Go to Incentives under Build Your Campaign, click Create a New Incentive, and choose the Pre-launch Reservation incentive type (you can optionally exclude certain pledge levels)

• Note: For creators, collected reservations are subject to the same 5% platform fee as pledges.

  

Where backers see it

Your reservation offer appears on your Pre-launch Page as a Reserve your spot callout — but only to backers who have already followed your project. Encourage followers first; the reservation prompt surfaces to them automatically.
