How do I manage Kickstarter Add-ons with BackerKit?

All add-ons sold in Kickstarter need to be matched up to their respective add-on in BackerKit. This process automatically places anything purchased in Kickstarter into backer's carts, and also allows backers to make selections on anything they have already purchase (like t-shirt size)! This process encourages you to set up all of the items you wish to offer your backers through the survey using the items generator (which will create the SKUs in the system). For an overview of the Item Generator, see  How do I set up items in BackerKit? To learn more about SKUs see Overview: SKUs

To match up each add-on, use the following instructions based on how the Kickstarter add-ons match up to what you are going to offer in BackerKit:

If the add-on you offered in Kickstarter is identical to what you are planning to offer in BackerKit:

  1. Create the BackerKit add-on as you would do normally. We recommend using the item generator!
  2. From the Item Generator page or the Customize Add-Ons page, click into the Kickstarter Configure page. You should see that link in the yellow callout at the top:

  3. You will see a list of the add-ons you offered in Kickstarter on this page. In the drop down next to the Kickstarter add-on, select the corresponding add-on you created in BackerKit.

  4. Hit save.

  5. When you have completed matching up all of the add-ons you sold in Kickstarter, you can hit "Place in Backer's Carts" to properly inject all purchased items.

  6. If you would like to test how these look in the backer experience, all of these add-ons are also added to the Test Backer.

If the add-on you offered in Kickstarter is different from what you are planning to offer in BackerKit:

Some examples: Price difference, different variant options, shipping cost difference, etc.

  1. Create the BackerKit add-on as you would do normally. We recommend using the item generator!
  2. Duplicate the BackerKit add-on that most closely resembles what was offered in Kickstarter. For example, if you offered a cheaper Early Bird add-on in Kickstarter, duplicate the non-early bird version you created in BackerKit. If you do not plan on continuing to offer a similar add-on in BackerKit, you can skip this duplication and just use the item generator to create exactly what you offered in Kickstarter.
  3. Change the name of this add-on to make it clear that this is the slightly different version, mark it as "hidden" to backers, and make it available to all pledge levels.
  4. From the Item Generator page or the Customize Add-Ons page, click into the Kickstarter Configure page. You should see that link in the yellow callout at the top:

  5. You will see a list of the add-ons you offered in Kickstarter on this page. In the drop down next to the Kickstarter add-on, select the corresponding add-on you created in BackerKit.
  6. Hit save.
  7. When you have completed matching up all of the add-ons you sold in Kickstarter, you can hit "Place in Backer's Carts" to properly inject all purchased items.
  8. If you would like to test how these look in the backer experience, all of these add-ons are also added to the Test Backer.

If you offered Kickstarter add-ons as an upgrade to the backer's pledge level, or offered Kickstarter add-ons that were bundles of items:
