How do I let backer's personalize their items?

Collecting Backer Names

If you are letting backers list their preferred name in thank you section or credits of your project, you can collect this information using a pledge question in their survey. 

Create a new pledge question, and first select the ‘Option - Free Form Answer’:

This lets your backers enter their preferred name or personalization. 

Always offer a way for backers to opt-out of having their name included. Make sure to include a multiple-choice option on the survey question, and list ‘Opt out’ or ‘Skip.’

Personalized Messages or Signatures

If you want to offer a signature or personalization as an upgrade, you set up the survey question the exact same way except for one key component. You will need to list the upgrade price for the signature in the price line of the survey:

Engraved or Embroidered Pledge Level Perks

If a pledge level item has the option to have items engraved or personalized, create a new pledge question, and first select the ‘Option - Free Form Answer’:

You would then enter in any upcharges the personalization costs, and add the item SKU. You will also need to select a 'multiple choice' answer to let backers decline a personalization, and use the same item SKU.

Once surveys are complete, you can export the responses from this pledge question and see which backers need their items embroidered. 

Add-ons

Engraved or Personalized 

If you are offering personalized or engraved add-ons, we recommend splitting these into 2 separate items. If you are offering personalization for all of your products, using the categories to split your add-on items into personalized and standard, or non-personalized, will help your backers know which version they are purchasing. 

For your add-ons with personalizations, you will need to use the advanced questions feature to collect their personalization details. You can get to this page by clicking ‘Add-ons’--> Advanced and then adding a follow-up question for these items. You can then set up a follow-up question with a free-form response area, and have the backers give you their personalization details.
