Add-on questions for Mix-and-Match Add-ons
Heads-up: Normally, add-ons that have different options or variations can be set up directly within the add-on using the item generator, we discourage the use of add-on questions if you are using the BackerKit pre-order store or if you cannot collect all variation information through the add-on itself for survey add-ons (example: offering mix-and-match option). If an add-on requires additional free-form data or if you have a bundled add-on with mix-and-match options, the add-on questions should be set up. Be sure to apply relevant add-on question(s) to the corresponding add-on(s).
Uses:
1. Mix-and-match options offered - Currently, in the add-on setup itself, you are able to set up up to 3 categories of options per item. It is recommended to set up add-ons with 3 categories of options (ex. color, size, material) through the automated Set up Items step.
If however, the add-on has more than 3 categories of options or you are offering a bundle add-on that comes with more than 3 items included, you can set up add-on questions by setting up one question per option and applying it to the main add-on. Example: 5-pin bundle where backers get to choose their design for each pin from 12 designs. You want to set up 5 add-on questions, each with 12 options and apply it to the main add-on.
- Free-form response needed - If an add-on requires a response to a free-form question, you can set up an add-on question to collect this info from backers. Example: an add-on that requires backer's discord ID in order to deliver it to them.
How to set up:
After your add-on has been created, you can click into the advanced tab within your add-on section:
From there, you can create a new add-on question:
You can then create a new add-on question in a free-form, radio (multiple choice), or upload (if you need to collect an image) format.
Once the add-on question is built out with its options and corresponding SKUs, you can select the add-ons that need this question:
When the backer goes through the survey or through the pre-order store checkout, the add-on questions will appear after they advance through the add-on section or after checkout if ordering through the pre-order store.
Heads-up: For bundles, when using add-on questions where each response option has its own SKU, do not add SKUs to the main add-on for items with options. The response that backer selects from the add-on question will be added to the backer's pledge. However, if the bundle offers both items with and without options, you can add the SKUs for items w/o options in the main add-ons SKU section, while keeping the SKU per response option for items with options.
Offered bundled add-ons during campaign?
If you offered bundle add-ons during you campaign (BackerKit and Kickstarter), you do not need to set up add-on questions to collect the backer's choices for multiple items included in the bundle, unless you need to collect a response to a free-form question.
You may simply set up each item as its own add-on with variants inside of the main add-on first.
Then using the Campaign Add-ons page in your Setup Dashboard, you can link to multiple 'survey' add-ons per bundle 'campaign add-on'. Ex: All-in Bundle offered during the campaign that comes with 1x pin, 1x bookmark, 1x cloth bag, and 1x map, you can link the all-in bundle campaign add-on to 4 survey add-on, each with its own options for backers to choose from.
