How do I manage Indiegogo Add-ons in BackerKit?

All add-ons sold in Indiegogo import into BackerKit as pledge levels, which means that backers with add-ons from Indiegogo will have multiple surveys (think: one survey per add-on purchase).  Not to worry, we can help merge the pledges with add-ons prior to sending out surveys to avoid backers from receiving multiple surveys.

The process of merging pledges with add-ons will automatically place add-ons purchased in Indiegogo into backers' carts in BackerKit. If the add-on has options that require backers to make a selection for (like t-shirt size), then, backers will be able to make their selection in the survey.

In order to merge pledges with add-ons, there are a few prerequisites:

  1. Turn off add-ons sale in Indiegogo - this step is important to ensure that most backers will receive one survey from BackerKit. You can continue to sell add-ons in BackerKit.
    1. Merging of orders with add-ons is done in bulk at once to ensure that you can focus on managing orders in BackerKit after surveys are sent out instead of updating the setup to accommodate new backers with add-ons as new pledges are placed on Indiegogo.
  2. Notify the Success Team - Reach out to your Success rep (you can also email hello@backerkit.com to get in touch with our Success team) and let them know when add-ons sale was disabled in Indiegogo.
  3. Comply with Indiegogo’s 10 day refund policy - BackerKit staff will wait 11 days after add-ons sale were disabled in Indiegogo before merging pledges to comply with Indiegogo’s 10-day refund policy. This helps ensure that backers who can cancel their pledge in Indiegogo do not receive a survey through BackerKit.
    1. If you can’t wait for 11 days, we can override Indiegogo’s 10 day refund window and pull in all backers after add-ons sales are disabled to merge orders with add-ons. In this case, please monitor any cancellations in the next 10 days and cancel the pledge in BackerKit if there is a cancellation in Indiegogo.

After all applicable pledges with add-ons are successfully merged and added to backers’ carts, you may finish setting up the add-ons up in BackerKit.

1. Adding product SKUs to add-ons sold in Indiegogo:

  • If the Indiegogo add-on doesn’t have options, you can add the product SKU/SKUs directly into each add-on using Review Pledge Levels> Add-ons SKU Overview page.

  • Add-ons SKU overview page on If the add-on has options (like t-shirt size), please set up add-on questions with available options using the Advanced tab on Customize Add-ons page.

2. Lock add-ons sold in Indiegogo:

  • You may want to lock add-ons sold during Indiegogo to ensure that backers do not remove them from their pledge for credit (eg. Indiegogo add-on cost differently than add-ons in BackerKit, Indiegogo add-ons have different shipping fees than add-ons in BackerKit). To lock an add-on, go to Customize Add-ons page> click Edit next to add-on> click on # Ordered at the top left corner> click Lock this add-on

  • If you have more than one add-on that you want to lock, please repeat the steps above.

3. Hide add-ons sold in Indiegogo:

  • You may want to hide add-ons sold during Indiegogo to ensure that backers do not purchase the same copy in BackerKit (for similar reasons you would want to lock add-ons). To hide an add-on, go to Customize Add-ons page> click Edit next to add-on> check the box for Hide this add-on from your backers in Inventory section> click Save

  • If you have more than one add-on that you want to lock, please repeat the steps above.
