Making the Most Out of BackerKit Launch

Launch Landing Page

We automatically generate a landing page for your upcoming BackerKit Crowdfunding project that you can customize and share out to your audience to spread the word and collect email addresses from folks that are interested. When you are ready to share your upcoming project, you can list it on BackerKit to announce it to our community.

Once the upcoming project is listed on BackerKit, you are ready to share on your social media accounts to grow the count of folks that are interested in the project. You can use ref tags to track where your sign ups are coming from under "results".

  • For more info on how to format your Launch Landing Page, check out this guide.
  • For tips on how to build an email list, check out our blog post.

Launch Email Templates

BackerKit Launch will generate emails for you with pre-written copy— what works best is if you customize it. The more of your own personality you can show through your writing, the more responsive your backers will be. You can also customize the landing page attached to each email to include additional content to get previous backers excited about your upcoming project.

Here are some ideas for what kind of messaging to send out via BackerKit Launch.

2 Weeks Before Launch

Subject: Coming Soon: [Project Name] is almost here

We're excited to share that we are launching our next project, [Project Name], in a couple of weeks.

We want to ask for your commitment to back us on day one. Your participation will enable us to have the strongest possible launch, and help us bring to life the best possible <short project descriptor< (lighthearted fantasy tabletop roleplaying game; minimalist leather satchel; petty pin collection; etc).

Are you in?

(recommended) Call out what is the incentive that you are offering your audience members. If the incentive is limited in quantity or time frame, make sure to call that out too.

(recommended) Include one or two short paragraphs about your project, especially if this is the first time that a significant segment of your audience is hearing about it. Add a second call to action at the bottom, if the copy is more than a few short paragraphs long.

Thanks!

1 Week Before Launch

Subject: Final countdown to [Project Name]

The launch of [Project Name] is under one week away.

(recommended) Add one to two short paragraphs that highlight what makes your project stand out. If it’s a new product, you can share the one or two most powerful benefits that it provides; if it’s a reprint, you can mention how earlier runs have sold out, are sought out or been a big hit.

We’ve got lots more to talk about.

Mid-Campaign Emails

The mid-campaign phase is often a period where momentum slows down considerably between the high-peak of the launch and the smaller peak of the last few days. During this phase of the campaign, your emails should weave a story about your project, giving your audience glimpses into different aspects of what you are making – e.g. explorations of different components of a game or features of a product, highlights from media coverage or backer conversations, stories about the project’s development or inspiration.

Out of respect for your audience, these communications need to be at least informative and ideally interesting. They should not feel like mere calls to action to back your project. The good news is that you have an entire project page’s worth of content to pull from for the emails from this phase of your project. We recommend sending on days 7, 14, and 21.

Example of Mid-campaign email

Subject: First Week in Review for [Project Name]

We’re thrilled to announce that [Project Name] has unlocked our first three stretch goals! We're looking for your input.

Pledge Now [CTA with link to project] and cast your vote!

(optional) you can add images to help bring to life the aspect of your project that you are exploring. To use images in Launch, they need to be hosted elsewhere online. Ideally, you should size the image to 600px.

Late-Campaign Emails

During the last two to three days, your campaign benefits from increased urgency created by the fact that there is little time remaining on the clock — after all, people have a fear of missing out. That makes it easier to get people to your project page, and pushes those on the fence to make a decision about backing your project. During these important days, it’s worth sending two emails in quick succession. The storytelling focus from your emails during the mid-campaign phase, can help to ripen your audience’s interest so that you can get them to convert more effectively during this last phase.

✏️ BackerKit Crowdfunding will send automated emails to your Launch Members list when 48 hours remain and on the last day. However, we still recommend sending out personalized communication.

24-Hours Left (Last Chance)

Subject: Last chance to back [Project Name]

Today is your last chance to back our campaign for [Project Name].

(recommended) add one or two short sentences that distills what makes your project compelling.

Back [Project Name] now! [CTA with link to project]

The clock is ticking. In less than 24-hours the campaign will be over.

Thanks,
