Trust & Safety on BackerKit
Creating a safe, trusting, and transparent relationship between creators, backers, and our team is at the heart of our work.
We also believe that successful crowdfunding starts with setting the right expectations. Backing a project means joining forces to bring a creator's vision to life. We’re here to help creators feel confident and supported as they navigate the ups and downs of crowdfunding, and to help backers feel reassured that their support matters.
We’ve seen how crowdfunding can thrive when creators have the right support, that’s what BackerKit is built for. The overwhelming majority of BackerKit projects fulfill successfully, with less than a fraction of a percent ever facing issues that could lead to unresolved fulfillment. Our team works hard to keep it that way.
Building a safe and supportive community
We’re here to help creators bring their ideas to life with the support of their backers. Our goal is to create a platform that’s safe, open, and community-driven. Trust is part of that foundation, and it’s a team effort. Whether you’re a creator, a backer, or part of BackerKit’s team, we all play a part in building this together.
- The BackerKit team is committed to running a safe, transparent, and reliable platform for all of our users.
- Our creators are responsible for the fulfillment of their project, keeping communication open with their backers, and following BackerKit’s rules and guidelines.
- Our backers are encouraged to make informed choices before supporting a project and engage with the BackerKit community respectfully.
How we keep our community safe
We take a proactive approach to platform safety. Our Trust & Safety team monitors projects before, during, and after launch to identify potential risks early and take action quickly. We investigate flagged content, review user reports, and enforce policies consistently to protect the community.
We rely on clear and enforceable guidelines including our Terms of Service.
Our team uses a combination of automated tools and human review. If something’s wrong, like a rule violation, we move fast to resolve it. This could mean removing content, suspending accounts, or guiding creators through necessary revisions.
How we review projects before they launch
Every crowdfunding project goes through a human review. Our review process helps ensure that projects are clear, respectful, and aligned with our Crowdfunding Rules. We look for things like:
- AI-generated content that may violate our AI Policy
- Missing or unclear timelines, reward info, or delivery details
- Content that could mislead backers or create risk to the community
This applies to all projects using BackerKit Crowdfunding. We also review teaser pages and marketing campaigns set up through BackerKit Launch to ensure they align with our standards.
We know that crowdfunding has a reputation in some circles for being unpredictable. That’s why we review every project before it goes live to create stronger expectations, reduce miscommunication, and make the experience better for everyone involved.
Supporting successful fulfillment
We work closely with creators to follow through on their goals. When challenges come up, we help troubleshoot timelines, logistics, and communications. Our goal is to support fulfillment, not punish delays, but we do intervene when transparency breaks down or when updates stop altogether.
We provide powerful fulfillment tools through our industry-standard BackerKit Pledge Manager, which helps creators manage orders, track inventory, ship rewards, and stay connected to their backers.
If a project encounters challenges, we take an active role in supporting the creator. Our team checks in, offers guidance, and helps them work toward a resolution. We’re committed to doing everything we can to help creators reach the finish line for their project.
Helping creators and backers throughout the process
Crowdfunding isn’t one-sided. Whether you’re launching a project or backing one, our team is here to help. We provide creators with onboarding tools, pre-launch marketing support through Launch, and success coaching throughout Crowdfunding. For backers, we help answer questions about pledges, timelines, and how updates work.
- Creators are required to explain their project goals and any potential challenges so backers can make informed decisions. If a project requires our review, we’ll make sure backers are in the loop.
- Backers are encouraged to check the “Story” section of a project, review the creator’s experience, and ask questions before pledging. If something doesn’t feel right, backers can always use the “Report” link to flag it for our team.
We believe that the more informed everyone is, the better the results will be. Clear expectations help avoid confusion, build stronger communities, and lead to successful fulfillment.
How you can help keep BackerKit safe
BackerKit thrives because of our community. If you see something that violates our guidelines, please report it. You can also help by engaging constructively:
If you’re a creator:
- Be upfront about your project goals, team, and challenges
- Share updates regularly, especially when things don’t go as planned
- Take time to prepare your project and build a community before launch
If you’re a backer:
- Review the project’s Story section, updates, and creator info
- Ask questions in the Comments section after you’ve pledged
- Flag anything suspicious using the Report link

We’ve created a simple page that breaks down the key parts of our Terms of Service and policies so you know exactly what you’re agreeing to when using BackerKit, guidelines our team enforces, and why it matters.
