FAQ: Why Does My Order Look Different From What I Paid on Kickstarter?

Q: The items in my cart/pledge level/survey look different than it does on Kickstarter. Why?
A: Kickstarter and BackerKit are two separate platforms. Any changes made on our platform will not reflect on Kickstarter. Once you receive your BackerKit survey – think of it as the single source of truth. As long as your survey looks correct, you are all set!
Q: I switched my pledge level and now I have duplicates in my cart that I can’t remove. Why?
A: Any items that were selected prior to the campaign are charged and locked as soon as the campaign ends. Switching pledge levels will not automatically remove duplicate add-ons. Please contact the creator team directly to request removal.
Q: I used Kickstarter's Pledge Over Time. Something is wrong with my pledge.
A: Your Pledge Over Time plan covered your reward only. For campaigns using BackerKit, shipping is often collected separately and wasn't part of the installment arrangement — so a shipping balance in your survey is expected.
I backed and paid on Kickstarter — why is BackerKit asking for more money?
Q: My Kickstarter confirmation showed $0 for shipping. It’s free. Why am I paying for shipping?
A: The Kickstarter order confirmation email below is auto-generated by Kickstarter and cannot reflect shipping rates set later through BackerKit, as Kickstarter and BackerKit are separate platforms.
A "$0" shipping line item means no shipping was collected on Kickstarter — not that shipping is free.
Always check the campaign page's Shipping & FAQ section to confirm whether shipping is collected through BackerKit before pledging. ⚠️ A shipping payment will be required to receive your reward.

Q: I already paid shipping through Kickstarter. Why is BackerKit asking for Shipping? I thought that covered everything?
A: Shipping is being collected separately through BackerKit (a separate platform). Shipping was not included with your original pledge payment. Fulfillment and shipping rates are set and managed by the creator, not BackerKit, and outlined in their campaign's Shipping, Fulfillment, or FAQ sections. Please reach out to the project creator directly with any concerns.
Q: I used Kickstarter's Pledge Over Time. Why am I being asked to pay for my full order again?
A: If one or more of your Kickstarter payments failed: Kickstarter's policy drops the entire pledge. For older campaigns, your pledge imports into BackerKit as failed with no history of your payment.
To move forward, please send us screenshots of your successful transactions and bank charges — we'll forward them to the project team, who will review and determine next steps based on their policy. Some creators will apply credit for payments already made.
If all payments were successful but your survey still shows a balance: it can take up to 72 hours after your final installment for your pledge to fully import.
For newer campaigns, if all payments were successful or partial, it can take up to 72 hours for your pledge to fully import and any prior credit to be recognized.
Q: My Kickstarter pledge failed. I thought it was canceled. Why is BackerKit contacting me for money/how was I charged?
A: For failed and canceled Kickstarter pledges, Kickstarter cancels your pledge automatically. BackerKit gives you a second chance through the pledge manager. If you complete your survey and add a payment method, your pledge is considered reinstated.

❌ Want to cancel/stop survey reminders? Reach out to us before you're charged and we'll take care of it. If you were never successfully charged, there's nothing to refund.
Q: I paid the creator directly outside of BackerKit (PayPal, external store, etc.) Why am I still being asked to pay here?
A: BackerKit doesn't have visibility into payments made externally outside of our platform. We'll need the creator to confirm before we can update your order. Please contact us and we'll forward the details to the project team right away. Include screenshots of the transaction from your financial institution.
💡 In the meantime, if you let us know, we'll remove your payment information from your survey so you won't be charged while we wait for their response.
