Charge Shipping Later - Ready to Add Shipping Fees

Overview:

The Charge Shipping Later feature allows you to add shipping fees closer to fulfillment. This will ensure the most accurate shipping rates for you and your backers. If you used this feature and you're now ready to add shipping rates to your project, reach out to hello@backerkit.com with a link to your project and the Success team will help disable this feature.

Once disabled, you can follow the steps below to apply the appropriate shipping fees to your backers' orders.

Recommended: Whole Order Weight-Based Shipping Fees
- This method calculates shipping fees based on the total weight of a backer’s order (including pledge level rewards and add-ons).
- Create a New Shipping Profile: Start by creating a profile for “Whole order weight-based shipping fee” [here].

Stackable Shipping
- This method charges separate shipping rates for each pledge level and add-on.

Pro Tip: Use the Preview Survey Tool to test your shipping fees. Choose the preview filter, "did not pay shipping," to ensure you see the surveys exactly as your backers will.

Once your shipping rates are verified, notify your backers with a Kickstarter Update, letting them know that shipping fees have been applied to their orders.

Automated Notifications:

We can send an automated message via BackerKit to notify backers that shipping fees have been added, along with a link to their survey. We recommend sending this message two days before cards are charged.

If You’ve Already Charged for Add-ons: Since you've already charged cards for add-ons, additional shipping charges will require assistance. Please provide a date for when you’d like to charge cards, a general time frame (morning or afternoon), and we can segment the backers with a balance due and run their cards on the backend. Note: BackerKit works Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm Pacific.
If You Haven’t Charged for Add-ons: If you haven’t charged cards yet for add-ons, you can do so yourself. After locking down orders, you can charge cards.
